What is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)? Are you different than a nutritionist?

A Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) is similar to a nutritionist in many ways. However a RDN has met a minimum set of qualifications and holds a legal title. RDNs have completed the minimum of a Baccalaureate degree granted by a U.S. regionally accredited college or university, met minimum academic requirements in dietetics (Didactic Program in Dietetics), completed a supervised practice program, successfully passed the Registration Exam for Dietetians, and continue to complete and update professional continuing education units for recertification.
Some RDNs call them selves nutritionists but not all nutritionists are RDNs. In many cases the term nutritionist can be used by anyone, and in other instances, the nutritionist may have completed a program or coursework.
The RDNs job is to help translate nutrition science in applicable and practical ways that will facilitate you in making changes appropriate for your needs and lifestyle.

How often will I need to see you?

This is variable for everyone. Generally speaking, most of our clients find weekly to bi-weekly sessions to be most beneficial. It depends on how much support you may need and what it is you are hoping to get from nutrition therapy sessions. The initial session is 60-75 minutes and follow-up sessions are 40-45 minutes.

Do you take insurance?

We do not take any insurance directly at this time. However, we recommend you check with your insurance company to see if they will cover nutrition services from out-of-network providers. If insurance will cover your sessions partially or in full, you are responsible for payment at the time of service (cash, check or credit card), and we will provide you a Superbill after the end of each month. You can then submit the Superbill to your insurance company for potential reimbursement.

What if I have questions after we meet?

We are available by phone or email Monday through Friday. When we are working together, we provide unlimited email support between sessions with a response within 24 hours. However, if you have an in-depth question that requires more than a 5-minute response, you will need to book a session or wait until your next scheduled appointment.

Where are you located?

We are an entirely virtual practice located throughout California! We can see clients throughout California and all over the world depending on the circumstances. Please contact us to find out if we’re able to work with you in your location!
